Staunton School Board Holds Public Forum on 2015 Budget
STAUNTON, Va (WVIR) -
The Staunton School Board held the first of three public forums Monday night on next year's budget.
Superintendent Linda Reviea says key factors in the 2015 budget include rising health care costs and a 24 percent increase in Virginia's retirement system.
The board also has to make up for one-time state money provided last year that provided a 2 percent raise for some school staff.
"We'd like to see some increased funding from the state department, which we think may be coming based on the proposed budget from the governor, and we also would like to be able to present a budget this year that cuts no staff,” Reviea said.
If you have ideas for next year’s budget there are two more public forums scheduled - one for January 30 and one for February 10 - and there's also an online survey.
