Some Charlottesville students are holding a unique fundraiser for a trip overseas. It's part of Charlottesville High School Orchestra's annual auction. The students are hoping to raise thousands of dollars for a trip to Paris.

They're auctioning off 17 violins crafted by artists, graphic designers, an architect, and even a CHS student. Each violin is completely one-of-a-kind. Many of them are hand painted, while one is covered in leather, and another one was made into a lamp.

The violins are being displayed in Pigment design and furniture store in McIntire Plaza. The bidding starts next month.

"It's all about the music and these kids are incredible, the opportunity that they have to play and perform and work as a team and travel together, and some of these kids have never traveled before," said Ginny Wardell, a parent volunteer for CHS orchestra.

Wardell says the orchestra hopes to raise $10,000 in the auction, which takes place February 1 through February 8.
