GREENE COUNTY, Va (WVIR) -
Greene County's Habitat for Humanity is starting the New Year with a search for a new director after the nonprofit's previous leader was charged with possessing child pornography.
69-year-old Gerald Besanson resigned the director position in November.
The organization is looking for someone who can find families that qualify for Habitat-built homes.
One member says Habitat is going through a reconstruction phase and hopes a new director will push the effort forward.
“We're hoping we can get somebody from Greene County who knows the people of Greene County, who’s got good organizational skills, who can build support, provide enthusiasm, and just get things moving,” says interim director Monica Waugh.
Habitat hopes to hire a new director within the next 90 days.
The nonprofit plans to host a dinner next month, inviting community members to come out and learn more about volunteering.
