Ignite Waynesboro, a competition for innovators, announced its winners Tuesday night.

Beginning in October, two events held by the Waynesboro Economic Development Office and the Staunton Creative Community Fund gave more than 20 entrepreneurs a platform to share their business ideas.

Marcus Thomas, who operates the Mr. Ice Cream Man ice cream truck was awarded first place and $7,000 to expand his truck.

"He had the spirit of the competition,” said Kenneth Wilfong, one of the judges. “We've used the term ‘he had skin in the game.’ And we felt his passion about the investment that he was going to make with the cash he was given."

Thomas said, "They believe in my idea like I do, so that's really good for me. It gives me more inspiration to go out and do more.”

Second place and $4,000 went to Dwayne Jones and Corkscrew Racing, a company that puts together 5Ks that end with wine.
