RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia is bundling up for historic cold.
Schools across Virginia are opening late Tuesday amid a forecast that could deliver the coldest weather to the state in decades.
The temperature is expected to dip into the teens early in the day and inch up only to the low teens.
On Tuesday, the temperature fell in Blacksburg to -minus 5 degrees, breaking a record set in 1988. It had dropped to -minus 2 degrees on Monday night, breaking a record set in 1959.
Roanoke's temperature fell Tuesday to 1 degree, breaking a record set in 1970. Lynchburg's temperature dropped to 2 degrees, breaking a record set in 1912.
Richmond dropped to 10 degrees, breaking a record set in 1988. Danville's temperature dropped to 8 degrees, breaking a record set in 1969.
