Cville Council Approves Police Grant, Addresses Parking Issues

Posted: Updated:

Police and parking were two items on Charlottesville City Council’s agenda Monday night.

Council approved more than $100,000 from a state grant to the Charlottesville Police Department. The money will help train officers in crisis intervention. This was just the first of two readings. Council will make a final decision at its next meeting.

Those who live in the Fifeville area could soon be seeing some relief to the neighborhood's parking problems. After a public hearing Monday, council approved a trial permit parking system for the areas around 10th and Page streets. Neighbors say the construction workers for the West Main Street projects are crowding them out of their parking spaces.

"I'm a prisoner in my house every day until 10 in the morning after all of them done parked. Then I can leave because if I leave before then they are going to get my spot,” said Josephine Morrison, who spoke out at the hearing.

The trial system will begin February 1.
