CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A Charlottesville restaurant is holding a fundraiser throughout the month to benefit the City Schoolyard Garden.

Sticks Kebob Shop will donate ten percent of profits every Saturday this month from its two locations to the nonprofit.

The "Sticks for Sheds" campaign aims to raise enough money to build a garden shed at Jackson-Via Elementary School.

“Their garden is a little bit further away and so our volunteers that help teach there have been really great about bringing all the supplies that they need to teach and maintain the garden back and forth,” says City Schoolyard Garden board member Brook Ray. “But, they really need a shed.”

The long-term goal is to raise funds for garden sheds at all six Charlottesville elementary schools.

Organizers say the program teaches kids civic engagement and healthy habits through garden-based learning.
