CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
MP3 players and iPods put music in the palm of our hands, but some Charlottesville music-lovers are turning back time to listen to tunes.
Stores like Sidetracks on Water Street say sales of vinyl records are up. People are also buying record players and big stereo systems that come with them.
But an even bigger surprise may be who is buying the retro music gear.
“Twenty-somethings and late teenagers have found it to be a lot cooler of an avenue to listen to music,” says Matt Glattfelder, whose father owns Sidetracks. “They will have record players for their use at home.”
Record sellers say it's hard to tell whether the resurgence is a temporary fad or an ongoing trend.
They say cassette tape and cassette player sales are also part of the rage.
