The Cavaliers play their ACC opener Saturday at 5pm against Florida State in Tallahassee. The 'Hoos enter ACC play coming off a 35-point loss at Tennessee, Virginia's second worst loss in the Tony Bennett era.
Bennett says, "We didn't look good and you have to learn from it, and when you get knocked down on the mat like that you got to get up and hopefully they'll be a full amount of hunger."
Virginia has a record 9-4, but has lost three of its last five and has yet to beat a ranked opponent, despite being ranked 25th in the preseason poll.
Bennett adds, "There's more depth we talk about that but also messes with chemistry, guys don't play as much, just some things that you battle when you have that type of depth, but we have to find a way, I wish I could say its just this."
Florida State has a record of 9-3. The Seminoles' top two scorers are guards and they like to run but Florida state also has lots of size in the front court.
Bennett says, "They're one of the biggest and longest teams I've coached against, with their size and they're very athletic. Keeping them off the glass with their size and their rebounding prowess we have to limit them as many times as we can to one shot and done."
Virginia will try to snap a 10-game losing skid to the Seminoles in Tallahassee.
ACC ball early if you can steal one on the road you can really set yourself up, but we're at a point now where lets just go a game at a time, one possession at a time and see what's going to get us back to playing good basketball.
Virginia has never lost an ACC opener under Tony Bennett, 4-0.
