Competition Aims to Grow Staunton Businesses, Nonprofits
STAUNTON, Va (WVIR) -
The Staunton Downtown Development Association, along with some partners, is kicking off the New Year with a program called Bright Idea Innovation Grants.
It’s a competition for two grants for $5,000 each. One is for a business in Staunton's downtown service district or historic Newtown and the other is for a nonprofit that serves those districts.
Bright Idea is aimed at helping businesses implement a new concept.
"They should be thoughtful, and I think most people do think that way. What's going to make my business grow? What's something that's needed here? What's something that's going to make me more competitive?" said SDDA director Julie Markowitz.
The competition has two tiers. The first involves an idea exchange event open to the public, and the second a small written business plan.
Online applications are due January 22.
