Just days before Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) rolls out its new routes, riders are sharing their concerns. The changes go into effect Saturday.

Riders rallied against the new routes Thursday night at the Jefferson Madison Regional Library.  Representatives from both the city and the county were there to take it all in.

A small group of riders who will be impacted after the night service on Pantops is taken away expressed fear that jobs will be lost, among other things. Residents of Monticello Vista apartments are also concerned. When the changes kick in there will be no more stops directly in front of their apartments.

One rider, Lena Cevil, says the city hasn't done a good enough job of getting the changes out. "There's been a lack of public input on the locations of stops and the timing of the routes. That was never put forward for people to comment on,” she stated.

City Councilor Kristin Szakos agrees. "We need to do a better job on behalf of the city on making sure that we get that information available,” she said.

Szakos is also urging people to call CAT to see what other options are available.  "I think in a lot of cases people are going to find that they have bus services, just different than it was,” she said.

CAT says it has adjusted the route that goes to Piedmont Virginia Community College after hearing concerns about a conflict with class schedules.

Albemarle County Supervisor Brad Sheffield says he wants riders with concerns to share them.  "The best thing I can tell at least my county residents is to respond,” he said. “Let us know how these changes are going to impact you for the good or for worse."

CAT says that it will continue to look at the routes and make necessary changes.
