UPDATE: UVA Police Make Arrest in Reported Sexual Assault

University of Virginia Police Press Release

University Police have charged Derrick Leon Johnson, Sr., a Charlottesville resident, with rape after investigating a report of a sexual assault that occurred in the 1200 Block of Jefferson Park Avenue on January 1, 2014, at approximately 8:51 p.m.

The victim, a Charlottesville resident, sustained minor injuries during the assault. She was treated and released from the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Mr. Johnson was taken into custody without incident on January 3, 2014, at 145 McCormick Road. He is being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail and is scheduled to appear in Charlottesville General District Court on Monday January 6, 2014 for a bond hearing.
