Cville Organization Aims to Connect Young Students with Food

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

A Charlottesville organization wants to connect young students with the food they eat.

The Piedmont Master Gardeners Association is accepting applications for a grant to fund agricultural education programs. There's $5,000 in grant money, and it's open to all schools in Charlottesville and Albemarle County.

The Master Gardeners say skills like sustainable gardening should be taught early in a child's life.

"It is valuable because the younger that they learn about gardening and plants and horticulture and the environment, they can carry this through their life. They can do simple things like have their own garden,” said grant coordinator Joyce Grunewald.

The grants will be awarded for specific programs in $100 to $300 increments. Only schools can apply.
