The man accused of assaulting an Albemarle County police officer, who was then shot by that officer, is preparing for trial.
Police say that after Josue Salinas Valdez fled the scene of a hit-and-run last May, officers tracked him to a home on Birdwood Court where he violently resisted arrest. One officer then shot Salinas Valdez in the torso.
A judge is considering whether three audio recordings will be admitted into evidence at trial. One recording is a 911 call of the hit-and-run. Others include dispatch recordings and a recording from the officer's transmitter.
Salinas Valdez will be tried on four charges, including felony attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer. His trial is scheduled to get underway February 10.
