Resolution-Makers Hit the Gym New Year’s Day

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -

It’s always one of the top New Year resolutions - hitting the gym and losing those extra pounds gained over the holidays.

By 10:30 Wednesday morning, the ACAC in downtown Charlottesville was already full of people trying to start their New Year on a healthy note. Personal trainers say it's their best month of the year, but getting people to stay with it is challenging.

"I usually do have a couple clients who end up sticking through the whole year with me, and I love that, I wish I could see more of that, but you know the unfortunate truth is that a lot of them do drop off,” said Daniel Lombardo, a trainer at ACAC.

The real trick, he says, is to have a specific goal in mind. He says a vague goal, such as staying in shape, doesn't give you something to work toward, which is why many clients don't stick with it.
