A driver is now in custody after being pulled over Wednesday morning and running from police.
It happened on Interstate 64 near the VDOT Memorial in Albemarle County. The driver is now facing DUI charges according to Virginia State Police.
What started as a routine traffic stop for a truck speeding on the interstate turned tricky once the driver stopped, and ran from police. There aren't many places to escape on an interstate crossing a mountain, so he picked sideways, down the steep rocky slope, and off into the woods.
A passenger apparently stayed put inside the truck waiting.
It took Virginia State Police and Albemarle County Police more than an hour to find the runaway driver hiding in the woods and take him back up the hill where he started.
Police have not released the identity of the driver.
