‘First Night’ Lights Up Downtown Mall with New Year’s Eve Revelers
Revelers in Charlottesville are counting down to 2014 and many of them are doing it in style, with music and art. First Night Virginia is a Charlottesville tradition to ring in the New Year on the downtown mall.
"There's always something going on somewhere that would be of appeal for families, for retirees, for people coming down solo,” said Drake van de Castle, who attended First Night.
This is the 32nd year of Charlottesville's celebration, the second-oldest First Night in Virginia. From face painting to drummers and even a parade on the downtown mall, First Night Virginia started Tuesday afternoon and offered a family-friendly environment to kick off the New Year.
There are also three places to choose from to ring in the New Year: the Omni, Grace Covenant Church, and Christ Church Meade Hall.
