Albemarle Police Investigate Fatal Accident on Scottsville Road

Scottsville Road in Albemarle County was closed following a fatal crash Tuesday morning.
   
The crash happened around 8 a.m. near Carters Mountain Road. Police say a 2000 Ford Mustang ran off the road and hit a tree.
    
The driver, 47-year-old Sandra Gail Austin of Scottsville, died at the scene. She was the only one in the car.

The crash remains under investigation. Police say black ice may have been a factor in the crash.

Austin is the 10th person this year to die in a car accident in the county.

The Albemarle County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that occurred this morning around 8:00 a.m. on Scottsville Road.

A 2000 Ford Mustang was traveling north in the 3800 block of Scottsville Road. The vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree head on. The crash remains under investigation but it appears road conditions were a factor in the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, Sandra Gail Austin, died at the scene. Austin was 47 years old from Scottsville, Virginia.

This is the ninth fatal crash the ACPD has investigated this year. As a result of those crashes, there have been ten fatalities. Please remember to use extreme caution while traveling on roadways early in the morning or in icy conditions.
