The National Transportation Safety Board has released a preliminary report about a fatal plane crash in Albemarle County earlier this month.
The report says the pilot, 52-year-old Gregory Voit of New Jersey, contacted the Charlottesville-Albemarle airport on December 18, saying his engine was dying. The engine has been retained for further examination.
Voit was the only person on board. The report says he declared an emergency at 11:08 a.m. Two minutes later came his final transmission, saying he was not going to make it to the airport.
The Beechcraft plane crashed just feet from a home in northern Albemarle, three miles from the airport.
The NTSB report says Voit filed all the proper paperwork before taking off that morning.
