Firefighters advise that if you have a real Christmas tree, don't let it dry out. A dry tree is a fire hazard and can burn fast.
The Charlottesville Fire Department shared a National Fire Protection Association
YouTube video via their Twitter
account Thursday. It shows how flammable a dry Christmas tree can be as opposed to a tree watered regularly. (You can watch the YouTube video above.)
According to the Insurance Information Institute, nearly half of all Christmas tree fires between 2007 and 2011 were caused by either an electrical malfunction or because a branch was too close to a heat source.
It's a good idea to recycle a tree when it starts dropping needles.
