The holidays will be a little easier for thousands of families across Virginia thanks to a donation made in the valley. The Shirley May food group, a Wendy's franchise, wrote a check to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Monday for $4,000. This should churn out 16,000 meals to people in need.
Leaders at the food bank say it's an especially kind gesture this time of year.
"It's the holiday season. It's getting cold outside. Folks are really trying to decide whether to put money into rent, or heat, or food. And this makes that choice-making a little bit easier,” said Michael McKee, the food bank’s CEO.
Leaders say the need also continues beyond the holidays, and the food bank accepts donations any time of year.
