CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) -
A University of Virginia lacrosse player is facing some serious charges in Charlottesville after a fight involving at least eight people ended with a police officer getting punched in the face.
Now, 21-year-old Carl Douglass Walrath is facing one felony count of assault on a law enforcement officer as well as three misdemeanor charges for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and public intoxication.
Charlottesville police say two officers broke up a fight along the 1400 block of University Avenue back on November 24, but Walrath resisted, punched an officer in the face, and ran. He was arrested a couple of blocks away.
The UVA Lacrosse website shows Walrath is a junior midfielder from Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.
Walrath is due back in Charlottesville General District Court January 23.
