Posted: Updated:

Albemarle County Police Department Press Release

In an effort to keep the roads safe this holiday season, the Albemarle County Police Department conducted a DUI checkpoint on Friday, December 20th. The checkpoint was held at Rockfish Gap Turnpike at Greenwood Station Road. The checkpoint began at 10:00 pm and lasted until 1:00 am on Saturday morning.

During that three hour period, a total of 261 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. Fourteen vehicles were pulled aside for further investigation. Two people were given field sobriety tests. They were found to be sober and were allowed to drive. There were seven summonses issued for expired registration and one for expired state inspection.

We are encouraged by the results of this checkpoint. Drivers were responsible, choosing not to drink and drive. The ACPD remains committed to traffic safety. We will continue to have specialized DUI enforcement patrols through the New Years Eve holiday. Please help us keep the roads safe this holiday season. Drive safe, drive sober and make it home for the holidays.
