Cville Fire Dept. Celebrates Christmas in Mexican Tradition

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of people came out to celebrate Christmas according to Mexican tradition Friday night, as the Charlottesville Fire Department hosted the seventh annual Posada. The night was filled with caroling, dancing, piñatas and even a visit from Santa Claus.

One of the organizers, Felipe Mendoza, says it's a great way to connect with the community and celebrate sometimes forgotten traditions.

"We're trying to welcome everyone in Charlottesville and show how in Mexico we celebrate Christmas and for the local Mexican people to keep the tradition and show their kids what they used to do back home,” he said.

The event has grown a lot over the years. The first year only about 60 people showed up, now it is something hundreds look forward to each year.
