Both Sides Rest Case in Kobman Child Porn Trial

Posted: Updated:

In Orange County Circuit Court, both sides wrapped up presenting evidence in the pornography trial of a former technology educator. Robert Kobman is charged with more than 50 counts of child porn - but will have to wait until February to learn his fate.

Prosecutors say their search turned up 1,500 hits of explicit material on Kobman's work laptop and home computers. He was a technology teacher at Locust Grove Elementary School when he was arrested last May, and is already serving time behind bars after he was convicted in August of assaulting a student.

In an unusual twist, the court ruled both sides will have to give their closing arguments in writing. The judge says the issues are so complicated he wants time to consider everything before he makes a decision.

The defense claims that none of the data found on the computers is illegal because the prosecution relied on software to convert computer data to porn images.

A primary issue the court will consider is how data is stored and whether the law prohibits that storage method. The judge will deliver his ruling on February 28.
