The 911 tapes from a tragic plane crash in Albemarle County have been released. The tapes reveal the immediate reaction of a woman living in the neighborhood off Preddy Creek Lane where pilot Gregory Voit crashed his Beechcraft late Wednesday morning.
On the tape, one woman desperately tries to describe the accident to the dispatcher as her husband responds to the pilot. She stays relatively calm describing the scene, after watching the small plane fall on a nearby lawn.
The caller is one of several neighbors who quickly responded to the crash. Police and a University of Virginia medical team arrived soon after the calls came in, but it was too late. Voit was killed on impact.
State police say he had left New Jersey and was headed to Charlottesville to visit his son. Voit was supposed to land at Charlottesville Albemarle Airport and reported engine trouble before the crash.
State police say they have removed the plane from the neighborhood.
Investigations into what caused the crash are getting underway.
