The Western Albemarle boys basketball team is 5-0 overall, and 3-0 in the Jefferson District.
Charlottesville is 4-0 and is also undefeated in the JD.
One of those teams will come away with its first loss of the season when they square off Friday night.
WAHS senior guard Chase Stokes says, "We've been preparing for them. We definitely heard about how good they are, and we how they've been in the past. They've always been a tough opponent."
"Huge game," adds senior forward Will Mason. "Probably one of the biggest of our regular season. They're a great team. Definitely one of the Top 3 teams in the Jefferson District teams, and we've been preparing like it's a huge game.
Western head coach Darren Maynard says the Warriors and Black Knights play completely different styles.
"We shoot the ball really well," says Maynard. "I think we're balanced on offense. We've got good outside play, good perimeter play. We've got good inside play, and I think we play really good defense. They really get after you. They're really quick and athletic. They put a lot of pressure on you, you got to be able to handle that. They get up and down the floor and run a lot of transition, you we got to get back. It's kind of a contrast in styles, a little bit, so it should be fun."
Western Albemarle has five senior starters, which they say could be a big advantage.
Mason says, "We all kind of know each other, and how to play together. We're all kind of 'One' together out there on the court."
Stokes says, "It's a lot nicer to have a bunch of guys who have been in the program longer. We all know what we're doing. We know what we need to do each game to get the result that we want, so it's definitely helped out having seniors."
The Warriors have five-straight regular season wins against the Black Knights.
Western Albemarle will host Charlottesville Friday at 7:30 PM.
