RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Democrat Mark Herring says his lead over Republican Mark Obenshain has grown to more than 800 votes in the recount for attorney general.
Herring's campaign says the 866-vote edge has been reached with 73 percent of the recount statewide completed.
In Richmond, attorneys for both campaigns are preparing to appear Wednesday before a three-judge recount court. The court is deciding challenged ballots, which Herring says total less than 120.
Obenshain sought the recount after he trailed Herring by 165 votes of more than 2.2 million cast on Nov. 5.
Herring predicted that he will emerge the victor once the challenged ballots are decided.
State elections officials say the certification of the election now rests with the recount court.
