Santa's Helpers Wrap Hundreds of Christmas Gifts for Seniors
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
Some of Santa's helpers are hard at work in Charlottesville wrapping hundreds of Christmas gifts for seniors in the community.
Volunteers with Home Instead's "Be a Santa to a Senior" program set up shop in the Seminole Square Shopping Center Sunday to prep the presents for delivery.
More than 800 seniors will receive gifts they asked for this year.
That's the most seniors to get gifts in the program's nine year history.
“When our delivery drivers come back, they say that it was just the most wonderful experience - the hugs, the kisses they get - but so often they hear, this is the only gift I got this year,” says Jeanne McCusker, owner of Home Instead Senior Care. “It's really important to take care of our community.”
Volunteers will be back at work wrapping up the rest of the gifts on Monday.
The presents will then be delivered on Tuesday and Wednesday.
