Cville City Council to Review Storm Water Tax Discounts

Posted: Updated:
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) - Charlottesville City Council is reviewing ways property owners can earn discounts on the upcoming city storm water tax.

The new tax goes into effect next summer.

Monday night, a committee will present council with options for what could count as a discount.

Charlottesville's vice mayor Kristin Szakos says one example might be installing a pond or wetland area that prevents storm water from running off a property.

“Whether it's a green roof or rain barrels or a storm water pond on your property, the things you can do that that actually keep your water from having to go into the public system will then get you a discount on the fee that you pay,” Szakos says.

City Council plans to finalize the proposed storm water discount policy at its meeting Monday night, which starts at 7:00 at Charlottesville City Hall.
