City of Harrisonburg Press Release
Harrisonburg, VA – The City of Harrisonburg is aiming to collect feedback on the proposed downtown park through Be Heard Harrisonburg, the city’s new, online forum.
On Tuesday, December 10, City Council was presented with preliminary design plans from the private Plan Our Park Design Team on conceptual ideas for a park in downtown Harrisonburg. The park would be located in the area of the existing Municipal Building, Farmers Market, and future City Hall.
The proposed design recommends the park to be installed in three phases, with a total estimated cost of $9 to $11 million.
A request from this committee was made to the city to enter a public-private partnership to make these plans a reality. Traditionally, a public-private partnership exists to share various expenses of a project. In Harrisonburg, some recent partnerships that have been successful include Rocktown Trails and A Dream Come True Playground. These partnerships included the donation of time, materials, and money.
Currently, these Plan Our Park efforts remain a private feasibility and design project, with no city funding or final approval by City Council. Do you have thoughts on this project and want to share them with city leaders and staff and other community members? Visit www.BeHeardHarrisonburg.org
