Neighbors: 250 Bypass Construction Blocking Access to Homes

Posted: Updated:

Neighbors who live on a Charlottesville road in the middle of the Route 250 Bypass construction say they cannot safely access their homes.

Crews started installing a curb at the end of Birdwood Road Thursday. The work shut off access to several driveways and sparked safety concerns for the people living there. Jennifer Pedersen, who lives at the end of the street, says they were given no notice from the city and she's especially worried for her 90-year-old neighbor.

“She's elderly and she can't walk and I would absolutely insist that she ask me to help her across here, instead of just walking by herself because she's fallen in the past and we don't want that to happen again. It's inconsiderate and unprofessional,” Pedersen said.

Pedersen says neighbors were given no notice before the work started, but the city says the contractor went door to door Tuesday to let neighbors know.

Contractors hope to be done with the project by Christmas.
