Augusta Health held the first health fair at the Boys & Girls Club in Waynesboro Thursday night.
The fair, called “Healthy Connections,” offered free screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, pulmonary function and more. It administered flu shots and provided information for health care providers and assistance - even dental care - all in an effort to strengthen the community one screening at a time.
"The Boys & Girls Club serves all children in all communities, but our building happens to be in a neighborhood that has a high poverty level. And so we have a great opportunity to reach out to our neighbors and our community,” said Pat Caulkins, director of healthy lifestyles at the Boys & Girls Club.
Health care providers say screening is the first step in preventative care.
