Air Compressor Explodes at Charlottesville Cleaner

Posted: Updated:

An explosion rocked the air Thursday afternoon on Preston Avenue in Charlottesville.

Just after 2 p.m., an air compressor at Brown's Cleaners exploded, spraying pieces of metal and wood several feet, damaging part of the building.

No one was injured in the blast.

Clerk Dorita Wood was on her lunch break when it happened.

“I heard a big explosion but I didn't know what was going on. I thought someone was out here shooting or something, because the roof was shaking and smoke was everywhere,” Wood said.

The Charlottesville Fire Department is still trying to figure out why the compressor gave out.
