A proposed cell tower from a popular cellphone carrier has some people in Albemarle County concerned.
AT&T is planning to build a cellphone tower in Albemarle County across from V. L. Murray Elementary School. The tower would stand 96 feet tall and would be about 1,500 feet from the school. But some neighbors say they want the tower nowhere near their children.
"What we would like AT&T to do is to do the appropriate evaluation for its proximity to the school to determine whether there are alternative sites that are available that would meet AT&T's requirements but also the tower would not be in such proximity to elementary children,” said Bonny Marty, who lives near the proposed tower.
There is a meeting at the proposed site on Morgantown Road Thursday at 9 a.m. with county and AT&T representatives.
