VDOT: Road Conditions Vary Across Central VAPosted: Updated:
Virginia Department of Transportation Press Release
CULPEPER —The Virginia Department of Transportation reports mixed conditions on highways in central Virginia as a result of today's winter storm.
In Albemarle, Fluvanna and Louisa counties, the pavement is wet and clear. Roads in Culpeper, Greene, Madison and Orange counties are in minor condition, with some slick spots. Most highways in Fauquier and Rappahannock counties are snow-covered at this time. Interstate 66 is clear.
VDOT crews continue to treat roads and clear snow, focusing first on interstates and primary roads and then proceeding to secondary routes, which are numbered 600 and above. Due to below-freezing temperatures expected overnight, the night shift will come on duty to watch for refreezing and to address icy spots as needed.
Motorists are cautioned to check local weather and road conditions before traveling. Reduce speeds when driving in slick conditions, increase following distance and allow plenty of travel time.
Motorists should check VDOT's 511 travel website, www.511virginia.org, before leaving on a trip. The website is updated in real time with weather and road conditions for all highways in Virginia. Once on the road VDOT's 511 mobile app provides real-time traffic and weather information for both iPhone and Android platforms. Travelers can also call 511 from any telephone in Virginia for real-time information on traffic and road conditions.
