Augusta Chamber of Commerce Wins Governor’s Challenge
With just weeks to go in his term, Governor Bob McDonnell stopped in the valley to recognize the efforts here to curb hunger statewide.
For the second year in a row, the Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce won the Governor's Bowl Food and Fund Challenge. Chambers across the commonwealth rallied donations in a friendly competition to support food banks.
The governor praised the altruism of this community.
"Augusta County is an amazingly generous community, and the business leaders here have really stepped up to help people in need. The Augusta Chamber's blown the competition away - 116,000 pounds," McDonnell said.
McKee Foods hosted the reception Monday at its plant in Stuarts Draft. The campaign has harvested more than a million pounds of food.
