VDOT says crews had plenty of notice about this storm so it was easier for them to pinpoint where and when to treat the roads.
Many road-clearing trucks could be spotted Sunday on the interstates near entrance ramps.
VDOT spokesman, Ken Slack says the crews pull over in those areas to measure the temperature of the road surface. It helps them pinpoint the best way to treat the pavement.
“When you go over a bridge or an overpass, because you've also got cold air coming up underneath, sometimes those freeze quicker,” Slack says. “The technology helps them make quicker and better decisions.”
