Waynesboro Police Department Press Release

The Waynesboro Police Department is investigating a motor vehicle crash that involved a pedestrian getting struck. On today’s date at approximately 5:15 PM, officers, along with the Waynesboro Fire Department and Waynesboro First Aid Crew, responded to the 700 block of East Main Street for a report of a vehicle striking a male pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim, a 51-year-old Waynesboro man, was attempting to cross the five lanes of E Main St under the railroad bridge when he was struck by a westbound 1995 Toyota pick-up truck being driven by a 46-year-old Waynesboro man.

The impact knocked the victim approximately fifty feet. Crash investigators also determined that the victim was attempting to cross in a diagonal manner and may have been intoxicated.

There is not a crosswalk at that location that crosses Main St and it is poorly lit.

The victim was airlifted to the University of Virginia Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The investigation continues.
