Buffalo Gap High School Auditorium Named After Retiring Principal

Posted: Updated:

Augusta County honored one of its longtime educators with a dedication ceremony Thursday.

After 50 years, William "Butch" Deardorff is getting ready to retire. He started at Buffalo Gap High School in 1987, and students and colleagues decided to thank him for all his years of hard work and selflessness by naming the school's auditorium after him.

"I guess all of us wonder whether we will be recognized or not, for anything, and you never know what kind of job you're doing or not doing, so I was excited to be honored," Deardorff stated.

Deardorff has battled cancer and other health issues in recent years. He says he will likely step down at the end of this school year.
