Harrisonburg Police Warn of Phone Scam

On 12/4/2013 Officers of the Harrisonburg Police Department responded to numerous businesses throughout the city in relation to a phone call scam.

Caller is stating they are the Harrisonburg Electric Commission (HEC) and demanding the business pay their overdue bill or they will shut off their power immediately. This caller is demanding Western Union Money orders only and calling after the HEC hours.

HEC does not call and receive payment over the phone. If you have received this call and have attempted to give money or credit information to the caller please call the Harrisonburg Police Department at 434-4436. Please do not give information or payment over the phone. If you believe your HEC account is overdue make payment in person or by mail during HEC normal business hours 8am-5pm. HEC contact number is 434-5361.
