A central Virginia tennis program has earned some recognition for bringing a love of sports to young students.

Lynda Harrill started Quickstart Tennis four years ago. Now, she has received the President's Award from the U.S. Tennis Association for her work.

The program brings kid-sized rackets and tennis balls to students all across the state, who otherwise wouldn't have that opportunity to play.

"Getting this recognition for all the work we've done is really special. I still find it hard to believe that four years ago we virtually had nothing going, and today we've got 136 schools, 22 counties, with 64,000 kids playing tennis so it's pretty exciting,” said Harrill.

Quickstart will open a tennis academy for students age 8 and under at Jack Jouett Middle School in March.
