UVA Associate Dean Indicted on Child Porn Charges

Posted: Updated:

The case against a University of Virginia associate dean accused of looking at online child porn is headed to trial.

Michael Morris, 50, was in federal court in Charlottesville Tuesday afternoon for an arraignment on three child porn-related charges. Technical troubles with a video-teleconferencing system to a judge in Roanoke delayed the start of the 10-minute arraignment by an hour and a half. Once that system was working, Morris pleaded not guilty to all three charges.

A grand jury indicted him on two counts of distributing or receiving child porn and one count of possessing child porn involving a minor under the age of 12.

The FBI raided Morris' Crozet home in early November. Court documents allege Morris logged onto a child porn sharing site nearly 200 times between January and October.

The feds say Morris used the screen name "funshooter2006" and accessed the site, at least once, using his university email address. Morris' attorney did not ask for bond Tuesday but told the judge he may request it at a later time.

A trial date has not been set. Morris is suspended from his position at UVA pending the outcome of the investigation.
