Albemarle County Man Enters Plea on Sex Charges

Posted: Updated:

An Albemarle County man entered guilty pleas to sex crimes charges involving two minors in Albemarle Circuit Court Tuesday.

As part of a plea agreement, 34-year-old Anthony Jamal Alston pleaded guilty to attempted rape and aggravated sexual battery. He also pleaded guilty to a count of sexual battery as part of the agreement. He will serve five years and six months in prison for that charge. He will be sentenced on the first two charges on February 25.

The commonwealth's attorney says two sisters, a 12-year-old and a 9-year-old, told police he touched them inappropriately earlier this year. They also reported they smelled alcohol during these encounters.

The prosecution told the judge they accepted a plea agreement so the victims wouldn't have to testify in court.

The defense claimed Alston did not remember these incidents, but said he acknowledged a substance abuse problem and wanted to accept responsibility.

The judge has ordered Alston to undergo a mental health evaluation.
