Waynesboro Police Department Press Release

The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a Stuarts Draft man for a couple of charges after a routine traffic stop turned into a brief pursuit with a stolen vehicle.

Cody Lafon Gibson, 23 years old, faces two felonies, eluding and knowingly possess stolen property.

On December 1 at approximately 12:40 AM, an officer observed Gibson’s vehicle, a 2008 Kia Spectra, traveling south on Poplar Avenue. The vehicle had an inoperable headlight. When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it made an abrupt turn on Ohio Street and accelerated to 45 mph, twenty miles over the posted speed limit.

When it entered Willow Oak Shopping Center, it nearly struck another vehicle. The vehicle then pulled into a parking spot where officer was able to detain the unlicensed Gibson, the sole occupant. When officers checked the status of the vehicle, they determined it had been reported stolen from Ohio.

Gibson is being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
