Valley Library Members Can Pay Fines with Food Donations

Posted: Updated:

Valley libraries are offering an opportunity to wipe out fines with a community service angle.

For more than a decade, Augusta County has let library members trade in canned goods or other food staples in exchange for overdue fines during the holiday months. Staunton and Waynesboro public libraries are also participating.

"Statistics from the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank are really staggering when you consider the number of families and people they help feed throughout the year. And the need just seems to get bigger and bigger,” said Diantha McCauley, director of the Augusta County Library.

You have until New Years to drop off donations. They'll also accept collections from those without fines due.
