Shops in Charlottesville are cashing in on Small Business Saturday, a day created by credit card company American Express to encourage people to shop local.
Stores on the Charlottesville downtown mall say they enjoyed an uptick in business on Saturday.
“It brings in people who may not have considered us before,” said Lynne Goldman, owner of Lynne Goldman Elements
“We can spend our consumer funds in Charlottesville,” said Kendal Carson. “We are helping to keep the engines of growth local.”
Some shoppers said it doesn't take a special day for them to buy local, but it helps to get other shoppers out of big box stores.
