Nothing keeps you warm like a homemade scarf made with wool and love. Friday, a group of women from a Charlottesville retirement community shipped off a box of homemade scarves for soldiers overseas.
The women from The Independence sewed the scarves as part of Operation Gratitude, an organization that sends care packages to the U.S. military.
"I was on the Internet trying to find something that we could do and Operation Gratitude just appeared on my screen and it showed knitting scarves for the troops and I said 'That's it,'” said Cynthia Kinnier, activities director at The Independence.
What started as a one-time project is going long-term. The group will keep knitting materials at The Independence all year so the group can continue to make scarves for troops.
