FLUVANNA, Co. – Two men have been arrested by Virginia State Police on multiple drug charges in Fluvanna County.
Floyd J. Suddarth, 65, of Fluvanna, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, conspiracy to manufacture marijuana, conspiracy to possess marijuana with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm and marijuana. David C. Ragland, Jr., 64, of Schuyler in Nelson Co., is also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, manufacturing marijuana, conspiracy to manufacture marijuana and conspiracy to possess marijuana.
On Sept. 21, 2013, Virginia State Police received a tip from a concerned citizen about the discovery of marijuana plants growing in a field off Kidds Dairy Road in Fluvanna County. Trooper A.P. Clore, Special Agent B.H. McManaway and Special Agent D. D. Tuggle recovered 110 marijuana plants approximately 10 feet to 12 feet in height worth an estimated street value of $330,000.
Upon further investigation led to the arrests of Suddarth and Ragland on Oct. 2, 2013. Search warrants executed at both men’s residences yielded an additional 172 pounds of marijuana, approximately $14,000 in cash, and approximately 41 weapons. The 172 pounds of marijuana have an estimated street value of $602,000. More charges are pending in Nelson County as the investigation continues.
The arrests and investigation were conducted in a joint effort with the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office, Nelson County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police G.I.A.N.T. (Governor’s Initiative Against Narcotics Trafficking).
