Thanksgiving Brings Out Volunteers in Charlottesville

Posted: Updated:

Volunteers are playing a big part in making this Thanksgiving special for people who could use a little cheer.

The Salvation Army says volunteers prepped for Thanksgiving dinner Tuesday and will be back at it Wednesday morning. Meals on Wheels has a number of volunteers lined up to help package meals and deliver them Thanksgiving Day.

"And a lot of people, this is their human contact for the day, so we are also a little bit of a check - a wellness check and someone to say ‘hello’ and ‘how are you doing? ‘Is there anything that you need?’ That makes a huge difference to most of these people,” said Leigh Trippe, executive director of Meals on Wheels of Charlottesville/Albemarle.

Meals on Wheels says, even though it has plenty of help for Thanksgiving, the organization is looking for drivers and other volunteers throughout the year.
